Carole Stoiber’s Artist Statement 2023

A correlation between language and the visual arts exists, even as art could and has existed as single languages (cuneiform, hieroglyphs, and pictograms).

Art is a universal expression of the human condition at any given time. Art speaks to all, with the voice of one. It is concrete and abstract; it is cement with wings. It is as natural and compelling as procreation.

Art, to me is desire, and it embodies all energy and excitement. Art is an idea developing into form; it is the conception of an idea and then the birth into a tangible. It is a thought created to become a dimension; an idea born, brought to life, and executed to exist as a concrete form. It is the life cycle of a thought. It is self-contained and complete, and it displays all freedoms and has no boundaries.

I paint in oils, acrylics, and watercolors; one of the interesting characteristic differences between these mediums is the use of white and the making of grays. In watercolors, white is the unpainted paper. In oils, masses of colors can immerse as actual texture.

I have always known myself to be an artist and like to work in clay to manipulate three-dimensional space. This is a skill that I might not have possessed without first becoming a painter. It is surprising and satisfying to see my visual perceptions in the round.

To express space and the element of time surrounding space in Two- Dimensions or Three-Dimensions (flat or round), is always my challenge as an artist.
